Hi everyone, I was just wondering how long everyone has had to wait for their operations? I have been on waiting list for breast surgery since June 2010. I come from southland and am having surgery in Dunedin. I had ovaries removed in may this year, only waited two months for that op after I gave the go ahead. I know every place is different but just like to hear how everyone else got on, I starting to stress more waiting.
Hi, I am also in the Dunedin area. I had my surgery in Dunedin nearly 3 years. Once I had all the pre tests etc it was around 6 months until I had surgery through the public hospital. I hated all the waiting, it was like your life was on hold waiting to get a date! But it was also the best thing I have ever done! All the best 
After 3 appts with breast surgeon from Oct 2010 Northshore, and 3 appts with my plastic surgeon Manukau, I was then allowed to officially complete the pre op forms and go on the manukau counties district health boards 6 month wait list for a skin & nipple sparing masectomy & Stage 1 expander implants. My op date was Oct 20th 2011. It sounds like you've had a long wait. I understand my plastic's registrar has been moonlighting in CHC from AKL to help withbtheir caseloads. I have also heard that AKL are up to their elbows on prophylactic mastectomies, and have identified a number of women/families with Strong breast cancer histories but are showing to be negative for BRCA 1 & 2. I think all women acting now are in a good place, because I don't know how much more funding the hospitals will get as this starts to snowball.
If you haven't chased them up, then i would definitely get in touch with your assigned breast nurse and ask her how far up the list you are, and the expected wait time - they have access to this info. My GP even had access to what priority i had been given, and yet I was not sent this info.
